Education

Proper physical education goes a long way to preventing sport related injuries. From proper warm up and cool down exercises to recognizing strain on certain muscles before they give way to injury, this is critical for serious and even occasional athletes. At Brady Physiotherapy, we feel it is our obligation to teach, learn and share any information and/or tips related to healthy living. For our part, we are constantly seeking new knowledge and techniques to pass along to our patients. The learning process is never done, and we recognize that it is integral to our clinic as well as to the overall health and well-being of everyone who walks through our doors.

Sudbury Sports Injuries

Sports Therapy

Sports injuries are most commonly caused by poor training methods; structural abnormalities; weakness in muscles, tendons, ligaments; and unsafe exercising environments. The most common cause of injury is poor training. For example, muscles need 48 hours to recover after a workout. Increasing exercise intensity too quickly and not stopping when pain develops while exercising also causes injury. If you have experienced an injury please feel free to contact us. We look forward to meeting you.

Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology taping is a non-pharmaceutical therapy method that has become increasingly popular and is being incorporated as an important component of physiotherapy treatments. It involves the use of specially designed elastic tape with water resistant and breathable properties that enable long wearing and comfort. The elasticity of the tape allows it to stretch and move with your body, like a human muscle. Your muscles are not only responsible for body movement but also help regulate blood circulation, lymph blow, body temperature, etc.

The tape is applied over the muscles in order to reduce pain and inflammation, to reduce muscle tension, and to provide support and stability to your joints and muscles while maintaining your full mobility. The special application technique also raises the skin, creating more space between damaged tissues. This improves the flow of lymph fluid and blood circulation, which stimulates the healing process.

Concussion Management Therapy

What is a concussion?

A concussion is a form of brain injury that causes an alteration in brain function. It is a result from a direct or indirect blow to the head, face, or jaw. Concussions can present a wide range of symptoms and recovery times meaning that it’s unsuitable to employ a single approach to rehabilitation. This variability has created a need for objective baseline testing protocols that can be used to track a person’s recovery time.

Concussion Management Protocols

Neurocognitive Testing

Cognitive testing is a recommended component of baseline and post-injury concussion management protocols and is designed to assess:

  • Memory
  • Reaction time
  • Attention span
  • Problem solving

Physical Testing

With athletes in particular, pre-season testing is recommended. This includes an assessment of balance, and visual function. Obtaining both baseline and post-injury scores provides valuable information when determining recovery time.
