Physiotherapy

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY VISIT?

At Brady Physio, we know how to get your body back to pain free movement and mobility. We specialize in remediation of impairments and disabilities and the promotion of mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential through examination, evaluation, diagnosis and physical intervention. Physiotherapists are skilled in prevention, assessment and management of conditions affecting the musculoskeletal, circulatory and nervous systems. We utilize several different methods and therapies as well as continual training to ensure that our techniques are perfected and our clients’ well-being is assured.

What to expect:

  • First visit consists of a physical assessment of the illness/injury by a Registered Physiotherapist (1 hour).
  • Development of an individualized treatment plan and goals based on impairments and functional limitations during the assessment.
  • Physiotherapy treatment consisting of manual therapy, modalities indicated, exercise for stretching, strengthening and conditioning, education and discharge recommendations.
  • Regular reassessment of each client’s status to ensure that ongoing treatment is necessary and evidence based.

Our Physiotherapist will explain the assessment process and results in detail then outline a proposed treatment plan to meet common goals. Treatment options may include but are not limited to:

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy techniques are specialized hands on skills consisting of joint mobilizations as well as soft tissue techniques designed to decrease pain, restore movement and improve function.

Mechanical and Electrical Modalities

Physiotherapists may use different modalities for pain relief, muscle spasm, inflammation and swelling, wound healing, increasing movement and strength.

Examples of the Modalities we are able to offer include;

  • Hot and Cold Interventions
  • Ultrasound
  • Interferential Current (IFC)
  • Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS)
  • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
  • Acupuncture
  • Paraffin Wax

The benefits of using Interferential Current (IFC) are as follows;

  • Reduces painful symptoms
  • Decreases local swelling
  • Helps restore normal movements
  • Releases the body’s natural painkillers: endorphins
  • Accelerates the healing process

 IFC has been found to alleviate pain in patients who have not found relief through less intense therapeutic applications. IFC penetrates soft tissue more deeply than a regular TENS unit.

Individualized Exercise Prescription

Exercise is usually a core component of most physiotherapy treatment plans. An exercise program may consist of stretching, strengthening and aerobic reconditioning. The exercises are progressed and customized to each individual’s condition and specific goals. Our clinic is well equipped with state of the art strengthening and cardiovascular gym equipment.

Education

All patients are provided education regarding their condition as well as important information and strategies to assist in self management and prevention of further injury.
